United States allocates 15.5 million dollars to assist Colombia after devastating earthquake
The United States Government has formalized $15.5 million in humanitarian aid intended to strengthen relief efforts in Colombia, a nation experiencing a humanitarian crisis following the recent 7.4 magnitude earthquake. The seismic event has caused a tragic toll of hundreds of deaths, thousands of injuries, and a trail of destruction in the western region of Colombian territory.
According to official reports from the State Department, this budget item will focus on critical areas for the survival and recovery of those affected, such as:
- Establishment and management of temporary shelters for people who lost their homes.
- Efficient distribution of food supplies and basic necessities.
- Specialized protection programs for the most vulnerable sectors of the population.
- Execution of detailed technical assessments on infrastructure damaged by the seismic event.
Operational deployment and technical field support
Beyond the financial contribution, Washington has mobilized its Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART). This group of experts is working in close collaboration with Colombian institutions to optimize search operations, coordinate emergency logistics, and map out the necessary humanitarian assistance routes in hard-to-reach areas.
The situation is apocalyptic. We are focused on every human life and the prompt care of the thousands of victims left by this natural disaster.
Abelardo de la Espriella, President of Colombia
