Trial for the murder of Tupac Shakur begins: Prosecution points to Duane Davis as the mastermind
The judicial process for the murder of iconic rapper Tupac Shakur has taken a decisive step in Las Vegas. During the opening of the trial against Duane ‘Keffe D’ Davis, Clark County Chief Deputy District Attorney Binu Palal presented compelling arguments to the court that position the defendant as the main person responsible for the crime that shocked the hip-hop world nearly three decades ago.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, there is irrefutable evidence linking Davis to the planning of the attack. The representative of the Public Ministry highlighted that the defendant has confessed on several occasions, and consistently over the years, to having orchestrated the operation that ended the artist’s life.
The confession behind the immunity agreement
One of the key points raised by Palal was the admission made by Davis in 2008 to federal investigators. At that time, the defendant confessed to having obtained the weapon used in the attack and having personally delivered it to the shooter. This information remained under a conditional immunity agreement that was kept confidential for a long period.
The Prosecutor’s Office maintains that the motive for the crime was revenge following a previous dispute that involved people close to the accused.
The motive: A violent retaliation
Investigations have determined that the attack that occurred on the night of September 7, 1996, had a background of retaliation. According to details revealed in court, the conflict originated when Tupac Shakur and music executive Marion ‘Suge’ Knight assaulted Orlando Anderson, Davis’s nephew.
