Weather forecast: Trough will bring rain and intense heat this Sunday in the Dominican Republic
The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) has issued a detailed report on the weather conditions for this Sunday, warning that, although the day will begin with mostly sunny skies and a grayish haze due to Saharan dust, the afternoon will be marked by atmospheric instability.
The presence of an upper-level trough, combined with daytime heating and local orographic effects, will cause scattered showers, thunderstorms, and wind gusts in various areas of the national territory. These precipitations have a higher probability of occurrence in the following provinces:
- La Vega
- Santiago
- Santiago Rodriguez
- San Juan
- Dajabon
- Monte Cristi
- Valverde
- Puerto Plata
- Espaillat
High temperatures and health recommendations
Despite the forecast rains, the atmosphere will remain hot across much of the country. Maximum temperatures will range between 33 °C and 35 °C, potentially reaching as high as 37 °C in provinces such as San Juan. It is essential to stay well hydrated, opt for light-colored, lightweight clothing, and avoid prolonged sun exposure during the critical hours of 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Weather surveillance: Tropical depression Fay
Regarding cyclonic activity, Indomet is keeping tropical depression Fay under monitoring, which is located in open Atlantic waters, more than 1,840 kilometers west of the Azores. Due to its current trajectory and geographical position, this phenomenon does not pose any danger to the Dominican Republic.
Similarly, a low-pressure area southeast of Bermuda is being monitored with a low potential for cyclonic development, which also does not pose a threat to the country.
Outlook for the start of the week
For Monday, a decrease in rainfall is expected due to the arrival of an air mass with lower humidity, with precipitation limited to local showers in the southeast, northwest, and the Central Mountain Range during the afternoon. On Tuesday, the weather pattern will remain under a hot and mostly sunny environment, with isolated rains focused on specific points of the border area and the Central Mountain Range.
