Tragic road accident claims the life of a teenager in La Romana
A regrettable traffic accident that occurred on the old dam road bridge, over the Chavón River in La Romana, resulted in the death of a 15-year-old teenager and left another young person injured. The fatal victim was identified as Marleny Vanessa Calderón Montero, a resident of the Romana del Oeste sector.
According to preliminary reports, the minor was traveling on a motorcycle along with a group of companions who were moving in other two-wheeled vehicles through the area. Witnesses at the scene indicated that the young people were traveling at high speed, which has led to versions regarding the possible holding of clandestine races on this stretch of road, characterized by its low vehicular flow. However, security agencies are keeping investigations open to clarify the facts.
The motorcycle driver, whose identity remains withheld, received immediate assistance from the 9-1-1 National Emergency and Security Attention System and was rushed to the Dr. Arístides Fiallo Cabral Provincial Hospital, where he is receiving medical attention.
Research and road safety measures
The removal of the body was carried out by medical examiner Joel Cabrera, with the support of DIGESETT agents and members of the National Police. By order of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the young woman’s remains were handed over to her relatives for her funeral services.
