Tragic traffic accident claims the life of a citizen in La Romana
A regrettable event brought mourning to the province of La Romana following the passing of Franklin Pierre Cruz, who lost his life after being struck by a vehicle while walking along the road junction that connects the La Romana–Higüey exit with the Coral Highway.
According to preliminary reports, the victim was walking along the side of the road when they were struck by a gray Hyundai Sonata. The force of the impact caused the vehicle to end up overturned on the roadway; however, the driver managed to emerge from the accident unharmed.
Response from the authorities
Following the report of the accident, units from the General Directorate of Traffic Safety and Land Transportation (DIGESETT), the Fire Department, the Civil Defense, and agents of the National Police were immediately mobilized. The relief and security agencies proceeded to secure the area and collect the necessary evidence to clarify the facts.
The competent authorities have moved the vehicle involved to the DIGESETT detachment to further the investigations and determine the exact causes that led to this road tragedy.
By order of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the remains of Franklin Pierre Cruz were handed over to his relatives so they can proceed with the corresponding funeral arrangements. Meanwhile, investigators continue to analyze the conditions under which the driver was traveling at the time of the crash to establish the relevant legal responsibilities.
