Road transformation: Government will eliminate traffic lights at the exit towards the Northern region
The Dominican government has launched an ambitious infrastructure plan designed to optimize connectivity and decongest traffic at key points in Santo Domingo. The main objective is the total elimination of traffic lights on the exit towards the Northern region, allowing for continuous vehicular flow.
During the second installment of Weekly Agenda, focused on infrastructure progress, the Minister of Public Works, Eduardo Estrella, detailed that the strategy for the entrance of the Duarte Highway includes the construction of three strategic overpasses.
Current project status
- The first elevated project has already been awarded and is currently in the expropriation management phase.
- The second project remains in the bidding process.
- The third has been formally put out to tender through RD Vial.
These interventions are fundamental to guarantee fluid traffic, allowing citizens heading from the capital towards the north of the country to circulate without the interruptions generated by the current traffic lights.

A non-stop journey
The vision of the authorities is to integrate these works with the new bypasses under development. With this interconnected road network, it is projected that a driver will be able to travel from Montecristi to Punta Cana without the need to stop at any traffic light, marking a milestone in national mobility.
This set of projects is part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at transforming the entrances and exits of Greater Santo Domingo, strengthening infrastructure and transport efficiency nationwide.
