COE raises four provinces to yellow alert due to the passage of a tropical wave

The Emergency Operations Center (COE) has updated its meteorological bulletin this Monday, raising to four the number of provinces under yellow alert. This measure responds to the impact of an active tropical wave, linked to the remnants of Dolly, a phenomenon that has significantly increased humidity and atmospheric instability throughout the Dominican territory.

The provinces currently at a yellow alert level are Santo Domingo, the National District, San Cristóbal, and Monte Plata. The agency warns that these areas are exposed to a higher risk of flooding, both urban and rural, as well as possible overflowing of rivers, streams, and creeks due to the intensity of the forecasted rains.

Provinces on green alert

Additionally, the COE maintains ten other provinces of the country under a green alert, closely monitoring their evolution. The demarcations included in this level are:

  • Samaná
  • San Pedro de Macorís
  • Hato Mayor
  • La Romana
  • El Seibo
  • La Altagracia
  • Sánchez Ramírez
  • San José de Ocoa
  • Peravia
  • María Trinidad Sánchez

The weather system is forecast to continue generating moderate to heavy downpours, accompanied by thunderstorms and wind gusts in various regions of the country.

Authorities urge citizens to avoid crossing rivers, streams, and creeks with high water levels, as well as to refrain from using swimming areas in provinces under alert to prevent unfortunate incidents.

In light of the weather situation, the COE has issued a series of essential recommendations to safeguard the lives of citizens:

  • Identify evacuation routes and safe meeting points in your communities.
  • Keep an emergency backpack ready with basic and essential items.
  • Strictly follow the guidelines of civil protection agencies.
  • Stay informed through official bulletins, especially residents in areas with high vulnerability to flooding.

The Alofoke Deportes team will continue to monitor weather conditions to keep the entire population updated on any changes in the alert levels issued by the competent authorities.
