Tragedy in Russia: Death toll rises to eight after fire at gas plant
A devastating tragedy struck the Amur region in the Russian Far East this Tuesday, following a voracious fire at a gas processing plant. According to the latest reports from emergency and civil defense services, the death toll has risen to eight, while search efforts continue to locate eight other workers who remain missing.
According to the official report, rescue teams managed to recover six bodies during the early hours of the day. Likewise, authorities confirmed the location of a seventh corpse in an area of the plant that, due to structural damage and the conditions of the incident, remains inaccessible to specialists.
At this time, the whereabouts of eight people, all of them Chinese citizens who were working in the affected area at the time of the incident, are unknown.

The fire originated in an auxiliary technology workshop where final preparations for the facility’s commissioning were being carried out. So far, the causes that triggered the fire remain under investigation. Among the victims identified thus far are one Russian citizen and six Chinese citizens.
The impact of the event has left a worrying number of people affected:
- Total injured: 152 people.
- Hospitalized: 37 individuals, of whom 8 are in critical condition due to the severity of their injuries.
Legal actions and future of the project
Given the magnitude of the tragedy, the competent authorities have initiated a criminal case focused on the alleged violation of industrial safety regulations in facilities considered to be of high danger. This industrial complex, which was not yet operating at full capacity, has the strategic objective of positioning itself as one of the most important polyethylene and polypropylene production centers globally.
Rescue and debris removal efforts remain active at the site, while the country continues to monitor progress in the investigation into this unfortunate event.
