Toros del Este begin their preparation for the 2026-2027 season
With their sights set on the upcoming Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) season, the Toros del Este have officially begun their preseason training. The opening day took place at the Francisco A. Micheli Stadium, where nearly 20 players, combining experience and young talent, reported to the field to begin physical and technical work.
The practice session was led by Brayan Peña, who serves as the organization’s bench coach. The official manager, Víctor Estévez, will join the coaching staff once he concludes his current responsibilities with the Washington Nationals in Major League Baseball.
New talent and experience on the field
One of the most prominent names on this first day was slugger Jhonkensy Noel, who reaffirmed his commitment to the franchise by expressing his intention to remain active with the team throughout the entire game schedule. Along with him, experienced figures such as Wendell Rijo, Carlos Castro, and Engel Beltré were also present to provide their leadership from the start.
Among the most relevant news for bullfighting fans, the incorporation of catcher Julio E. Rodríguez stands out, a key piece acquired during free agency that seeks to strengthen the position behind the plate.
Reinforcements on the mound
The pitching staff received new faces that promise to provide depth to the staff. Among the pitchers present, the following stood out:
- Phillips Valdez, a right-hander recently signed in free agency.
- Reymin Guduán, a left-hander who arrives in La Romana via a trade with the Gigantes del Cibao.
- José Manuel Fernández, Michael Ynoa, and Juan Zapata, who completed the group of pitchers on this first day.
The Toros del Este maintain their focus on the comprehensive preparation of their players, seeking to arrive in optimal conditions by October 16, the date on which the Dominican winter baseball season will kick off.
The organization reported that training will continue this Tuesday at the Francisco A. Micheli Stadium, starting at 9:00 in the morning, to continue fine-tuning details ahead of the official competition.
