Industrias San Miguel promotes recycling and education with Plastics for School Supplies
The third edition of the “Plastics for School Supplies” initiative has had the strategic support of Industrias San Miguel, reaffirming its commitment to sustainability and responsible waste management in the National District. Mario Medina, Corporate Affairs Manager of the entity, highlighted the importance of this project to foster environmental awareness and prevent millions of plastic containers from polluting the city’s water resources and public spaces.
During the event, Medina highlighted the value of public-private collaboration in promoting responsible habits: “We believe that these types of activities raise awareness so that materials, plastics, do not end up in rivers and streams,” stated the executive, who highlighted the company’s participation for the second consecutive year in this day led by the National District City Hall.
The idea is to continue surpassing those figures, to obtain a greater quantity of bottles, and in that way prevent them from ending up in a place where they should not be.

Circular economy: A commitment to the future
One of the milestones mentioned by Medina is the recent inauguration of a processing plant, which allows for closing the circular economy cycle. This infrastructure facilitates that the plastics collected during events like this receive proper treatment, allowing for their purification and reuse under strict quality standards. With more than 37 million bottles recovered through municipal recycling programs, the goal is to maintain a constant growth trend in collection.
Safety and logistics for the day
The event, held at the Municipal Palace, has deployed a robust security and logistics operation to ensure the well-being of the citizens. Under the guidelines of Mayor Carolina Mejía, various institutions were integrated to ensure order, including:
- National Police and National Army.
- Air Force and Ciutran.
- Civil Defense, Red Cross and Daeh.
To provide a safe experience for families, the venue has a mobile hospital, eight ambulances, aerial surveillance units, and camera monitoring technology, reaffirming that the success of the event depends as much on citizen participation as it does on an efficient organizational structure.
