Toros del Este bolster their rotation with lefty Evan Grills
The Toros del Este management announced the addition of Canadian pitcher Evan Grills, who arrives in La Romana to strengthen the team’s starting rotation ahead of the 2026-2027 season of the Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM).
Grills, 34, is already integrated into the orange team’s training sessions. The left-handed pitcher comes off an outstanding performance during the summer, where he split his time between the Frontier League and the Mexican Baseball League, recording a combined 10-5 record. In 107 innings of work, he managed to strike out 98 batters and showed great control by issuing just 25 walks.
Grills is a left-handed starter with a good repertoire and command; that combination always adds value to a rotation in this league.

Although it will be his first experience in Dominican winter baseball, the pitcher has an extensive international background that includes stints in the Puerto Rican professional league and the Chinese Professional Baseball League, which brings maturity and versatility to the Toros’ pitching staff.
Adjustments to the opener body
The arrival of Grills is a strategic move in response to Aaron Sánchez’s temporary absence. The American pitcher was affected by a viral illness shortly after his arrival in the country and, after suffering a relapse this week, remains out of action. The organization stated that Sánchez will rejoin the roster once he has fully recovered from his health condition.
Manager Víctor Estévez and his coaching staff are expected to define the official rotation for the start of the campaign in the coming days, seeking the necessary balance for the first games of the tournament.

The Toros del Este are ready for the start of the action. The Francisco A. Micheli Stadium will be the stage for the bull’s debut this Friday, October 16, when they host the Estrellas Orientales at 7:30 PM, thus marking the long-awaited Opening Day of the 2026-2027 season.
