Toros del Este intensify preparations for the 2026-27 LIDOM season
The Toros del Este organization has taken a firm step in its preseason process with an eye toward the upcoming 2026-27 campaign of the Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM). The La Romana-based team announced the integration of key figures who promise to strengthen the roster from the first day of action.
Among the players who have reported to Francisco A. Micheli Stadium are the experienced catcher Pedro Severino, the talented infielders Welbyn Francisca and Dawell Lugo, as well as reliever José Adames, who are already working under the guidance of the coaching staff.
Pedro Severino, the defensive pillar
The arrival of Pedro Severino represents a luxury addition to the catching position. Following his arrival via free agency, the Gold Glove winner from last season is shaping up to be the undisputed starter behind the plate. With a distinguished career, Severino arrives in La Romana with a mindset focused on collective success.
I bring a lot to the team because I have always been a winner and what I like is to win.
Pedro SeverinoYoung talent and experience in the squad
The infield depth is bolstered by the presence of Welbyn Francisca, a Cleveland Guardians prospect and the Toros’ first-round pick in the 2024 Draft. Francisca is coming off an explosive season in the minor leagues, where he demonstrated power and consistency in both Class A+ and Double-A. The young player is scheduled to join the team after completing his commitments in the Arizona Fall League.
Likewise, veteran Dawell Lugo returns to contribute his vast experience in LIDOM. The third baseman, recognized for his defensive ability and awarded the Gold Glove in the 2021-22 campaign, seeks to be a fundamental piece in the Toros’ offensive and defensive scheme.
