Theft of service weapon from lieutenant colonel in Santiago under investigation

The National Police has initiated an investigation process following the theft of a service weapon and various personal belongings from a lieutenant colonel of the institution. The incident occurred this Thursday around midday while the officer was enjoying a moment of leisure in the waters of the Yaque River, specifically under the Yapur Dumit bridge, in Santiago.

According to preliminary reports, the officer was at the location accompanied by other people when unknown individuals took advantage of his time in the water to steal his personal belongings and his service weapon, fleeing immediately after committing the act.

Actions of the authorities

After receiving the report, agents from the Central Directorate of Investigation (DICRIM) moved to the area to collect evidence and begin the corresponding investigations. As part of the efforts to clarify the event, several people have been detained for questioning.

  • The suspects were initially taken to the Mari López detachment, in the southern area of Santiago.
  • Subsequently, the individuals were transferred to the Cibao Central Regional Directorate of the National Police to further investigate the case.

The authorities are keeping the investigations open with the main objective of identifying those responsible, recovering the stolen weapon, and determining the exact circumstances under which the robbery occurred.
