The official medical report, issued by UAE Team Emirates, detailed that the Slovenian has a displaced fracture of the left clavicle, a stable cervical injury to the C7 vertebra, and a concussion. Although the cyclist is stable and without neurological sequelae, Dr. Adrian Rotunno confirmed that surgical intervention will be necessary, which has been temporarily postponed as a precautionary measure due to the blow to the head.
An unprecedented fact in his career
This withdrawal sets a negative precedent in Pogacar’s professional career, marking the first time the star rider has retired from a stage race since his debut on the UCI circuit. The Slovenian arrived at this stage as the heavy favorite to take the title, backed by three stage victories and clear dominance in the general classification.

Pogacar’s exit has completely reshaped the race landscape. The Spaniard Enric Mas becomes the new general classification leader, escorted by Primoz Roglic and Felix Gall. Mas did not hide his regret for what happened to his rival:
