Technological boost and infrastructure improvements mark the start of the 2026-2027 school year
The Dominican educational system has begun the 2026-2027 school year with a renewed focus on the modernization of its facilities and the professionalization of the teaching staff. With the goal of raising the quality of learning, the Ministry of Education has completed the renovation of 1,300 educational centers nationwide, ensuring more dignified and functional spaces for students.
One of the most relevant milestones of this start is the integration of 337 new computer and communications laboratories, intended mainly to strengthen technical training in the country’s polytechnics. This initiative seeks to close the digital divide and equip students with essential technological skills for the current labor market.
Commitment to teaching excellence
Preparation for this academic cycle was not limited to physical infrastructure. According to Cristian Keli, director of the Professional Technical modality, strategic planning work began last February. As a result, more than 95,000 teachers have been trained in various pedagogical and technological areas.
The training sessions held prior to the school year were aimed at providing teachers with knowledge that can be applied in the classrooms and respond to the real needs of the students.
A student population on the move
The public and private educational system receives a massive enrollment estimated at 2.6 million students. The distribution of this student population is divided as follows:
- Public Sector: Concentrates approximately 78% of the country’s total enrollment.
- Private Sector: Welcomes more than 600,000 students who are resuming their academic activities.
This return to the classrooms not only represents a logistical challenge for Dominican families, but also an opportunity to consolidate a more robust educational model. Educational authorities have emphasized that the maintenance of school facilities and continuous monitoring of the needs of each school community will be priorities throughout the year, ensuring that the investments made translate into a positive and direct impact on the academic performance of the youth.
