Shakira joins Howard Graham Buffett to boost education in Chocó

The renowned Colombian artist Shakira has taken on a new social commitment in her native country. During a recent visit to Quibdó, the capital of the Chocó department, the singer announced that she will lead the efforts for the reconstruction of the Technological University of Chocó, infrastructure that was severely affected after the earthquake recorded on August 10th in Colombian territory.

This educational infrastructure project will be carried out in a strategic alliance with the American philanthropist Howard Graham Buffett. The work plan includes, in addition to the recovery of the university center, the construction of ten new schools in the region, an initiative that seeks to strengthen access to the school system in one of the areas with the greatest needs in Colombia.

I am going to dedicate all my personal efforts to rebuilding the Technological University of Chocó. Howard is going to help us with the Pies Descalzos Foundation to build ten new schools in Chocó, that is why it was so important to bring him, that is why it was so important to come today.

Education as a pillar of development

During her tour of the affected area, the interpreter emphasized the urgency of guaranteeing the academic continuity of the youth. According to the singer, the interruption of the educational process has direct consequences on the development opportunities of future generations.

Shakira underscored the importance of this intervention with a powerful reflection: “Every day that children do not go to school is a day we pause their future, and we cannot allow that.”

With this work, the Pies Descalzos Foundation continues to expand its social impact, focusing on school infrastructure as a fundamental tool to transform realities in vulnerable communities in Colombia.
