Santo Domingo Cardiovascular Center celebrates a year of success with its Stroke Code

The Santo Domingo Cardiovascular Center commemorated the first anniversary of the launch of its Stroke Code initiative, an emergency protocol that has transformed the care of patients suffering from a stroke. In this first year of operation, the center has managed to provide specialized assistance to more than 100 people, setting a precedent in the management of neurological emergencies in the country.

This program was designed with the primary objective of optimizing response times, a determining factor for improving recovery probabilities and reducing sequelae in patients affected by a stroke. The implementation of this model is based on coordinated and timely care that integrates various medical specialties.

A multidisciplinary team at the service of health

The anniversary celebration served as a meeting point for specialists, health professionals, and collaborators who have been key pieces in the development of this project. During the event, the evolution of the service and the importance of consolidating a multidisciplinary team capable of acting under pressure were analyzed.

Dr. Vifranny Espaillat Durán, a vascular neurologist and coordinator of the Stroke Unit, highlighted the progress achieved since the beginning of the program. For their part, endovascular neurosurgeons Amaury García and Juan Ramírez delved into the technical advances of mechanical thrombectomy, underscoring the positive impact of cerebral reperfusion therapies when applied at the right time.

When we talk about Stroke Code, we talk about time, coordination, and teamwork. Each patient represents a family story and an opportunity to change the course of a disease that can leave significant sequelae if one does not act quickly.

Pillars of success in neurological care

The success of the Stroke Code would not be possible without the synergy between multiple hospital services. The program’s structure requires constant and efficient communication between:

  • Emergency services.
  • Vascular neurology.
  • Diagnostic imaging unit.
  • Specialized nursing staff.
  • Critical care and neurointervention.

Looking to the future, the Santo Domingo Cardiovascular Center reaffirmed its commitment to continue strengthening care processes. The institution plans to continue improving coordination among health professionals and expand patient access to cerebral reperfusion therapies, ensuring cutting-edge care for those facing this medical emergency.
