Santiago Matías begins the path toward the 2028 presidential candidacy in Santiago
In a day marked by notable citizen support, Santiago Matías carried out the official launch of the signature collection for his political proposal, the Dominicans First Party, in Santiago de los Caballeros. The event, which attracted hundreds of followers, focused on a clear message of political renewal and the rejection of the traditional structures that, according to those present, have dominated the national landscape for decades.
The activity, held on the marginal avenue near Central Park, stood out for the presence of a crowd that attended voluntarily. The attendees emphasized that their participation was not motivated by economic incentives or handouts, but by a deep conviction to transform the way politics is practiced in the Dominican Republic.
We are going to end the old politics. We no longer want the 500 pesos or the pica pollo. We are here of our own free will; no one had to give us anything to come.
Dorian Peña, event attendee.
A call for generational change
Matías’ followers expressed their discontent with conventional political figures, arguing that the country requires an urgent change of course. During the registration process, participants expressed their hope to see Santiago Matías on the presidential ballot for the 2028 elections, under the slogan of overcoming the deficiencies of the current system.
- The event coincided with the commemoration of the 163rd anniversary of the Restoration of the Republic.
- The political proposal is defined as a “new beginning” for Dominican democracy.
- Citizens highlighted the need to address critical issues such as access to medicine, housing, and food.
One of the attendees at the meeting highlighted that the support for Matías’ figure stems from the perception that there is a different vision than the one offered by traditional parties. According to the testimonies collected at the scene, citizens are looking for real solutions to the social shortcomings that affect Dominican families, moving away from the empty promises that usually characterize electoral campaigns.
With this step, Santiago Matías formally positions himself in the public debate as a figure with presidential aspirations, capitalizing on a discourse that emphasizes transparency and a break from the methods of the past. This start of signature collection marks a key stage in the construction of his political platform for the coming years.
