ONAPI records historic growth in industrial property services during Salvador Ramos’ management
The National Office of Industrial Property (ONAPI) presented the results of its most recent management, highlighting a significant advance in the formalization of new businesses and the protection of trademarks in the country. The Director General, Salvador Ramos, led the accountability event where the dynamism of the Dominican productive sector was highlighted.
Key achievements and increase in applications
- Growth in registrations: More than 86 thousand applications for distinctive signs were recorded, which represents an increase of more than 11% compared to the previous period.
- Renewals on the rise: The interest in maintaining the validity of trademarks and trade names increased by 14%, reflecting a greater culture of protection of intangible assets.
- Legal strengthening: The application of Law 20-00 was consolidated, serving as a fundamental basis for entrepreneurs and business owners in the development of their projects.
For Ramos, these figures are not just numbers, but an indicator of a growing demand for institutional services and greater confidence from the business sector in the industrial property mechanisms offered by the State.
Strategic alliances and education
During the meeting, emphasis was placed on the collaboration agreements signed with prominent higher education institutions, including UASD, UNPHU, INTEC, APEC, UNIBE, UAPA, UNICDA, and the Universidad Católica Nordestana. The main objective of these alliances is the creation of Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISC) and constant training on intellectual property.
Collaboration with government and academic institutions is vital to simplify bureaucratic processes and foster a culture of innovation in the Dominican Republic.

The day concluded with the conference “Industrial Property in times of Technology,” given by expert Ana Carolina Blanco, and the screening of an audiovisual piece that detailed the projects executed by the management team in the last year from the Víctor Villegas auditorium.
