Salvador B. Gautier Hospital begins deep transformation of its facilities

The Salvador B. Gautier Hospital has launched an ambitious infrastructure transformation plan, with the goal of raising the standards of safety and quality in the medical care it provides to the Dominican population. This project, which responds to a long-standing demand from its staff, seeks to modernize clinical spaces and ensure appropriate environments for patients and healthcare professionals.

Doctor Mingkingüeis Maarlem Castillo, general director of the hospital center, clarified that this intervention is a direct response to structural needs accumulated over years. As he explained, after conducting the corresponding technical studies, it was determined that the professional building did not allow for superficial renovation, which is why a comprehensive reconstruction has been chosen to safeguard the integrity of those who visit and work at the institution.

We are not talking about the hospital closing. We are talking about the fact that we have to make way for a new construction to precisely guarantee the safety of the patients and the staff who work there.

Continuity of medical services

One of the fundamental pillars of this project is the guarantee of continuity of care. The hospital management has confirmed that there will be no closure of operations, but rather a strategic realignment. To this end, spaces are being set up on the first level for consultations and outpatient services.

  • Area adaptation: Enabling offices on the first floor to maintain care.
  • Strategic referral: Cases that cannot be managed temporarily due to the reduction of space will be transferred to other centers in the Public Network.
  • Scope of work: Intervention in the procedures, surgery, hospitalization, and diagnostic studies building, in addition to the construction of a new professional structure.

Salvador B. Gautier, recognized as a national reference hospital, plays a crucial role in the health system by hosting 30 training programs for specialists and subspecialists. Likewise, it is a benchmark in critical areas such as plastic and reconstructive surgery, spinal surgery, hemodynamics, and skull base surgery.

Staff support and future vision

The transformation has the full support of the hospital community, including medical, administrative, and support staff. Dr. Castillo emphasized that this project is, in essence, a recognition of the demands of the workers who, for years, have requested decent conditions to carry out their clinical and academic work.

With this improvement plan, the hospital center seeks not only to renovate its facade, but to strengthen its operational capacity, ensuring that the hospital maintains its prestige and functionality as one of the most important pillars of specialized medicine in the country.
