Prosecutor’s Office warns of possible arrest warrants against communicators in case of non-appearance
The National District Prosecutor’s Office has taken decisive measures in the legal process involving communicators Danny Alcántara, Luisín Mejía, and Oscar Medina, who are facing a lawsuit for alleged defamation and slander. Following the suspension of the scheduled hearing, judicial authorities have set a new date for October 13th, issuing a clear warning: the failure of those involved to appear could result in the issuance of arrest warrants.
Although the communicators’ defense argued that their presence was not indispensable at this stage of the process, the Public Prosecutor’s Office was emphatic in establishing that their appearance will be mandatory in the next summons. This case, which has generated great attention, also includes a civil party constitution against the media group Color Visión.
Details of the complaint and origin of the conflict
The legal action, filed by Carlos Julio Martínez, Francisco Durán, and Enrique Vallejo, originated on April 16, 2026. The plaintiffs maintain that during the broadcast of the program “Hoy Mismo Matinal” on November 13, 2025, expressions were disseminated that infringed upon their honor and reputation.
The plaintiffs have been emphatic in their position: for the moment, there is no willingness whatsoever to settle, and the judicial process will follow its legal course to its final consequences.
Legal foundations of the case
The lawsuit is based on alleged violations of Law 53-07 on High-Tech Crimes and Offenses, specifically in its articles 21, 22, 60, and 64. The complainants allege that in the aforementioned television space and its digital platforms, false claims were validated regarding a previous litigation before the Superior Administrative Court.
- The communicators are accused of pointing out the existence of an alleged collusion with judges.
- The existence of an alleged briefcase with money intended for the purchase of a sentence was mentioned, accusations that the plaintiffs describe as defamatory.
The case is under investigation by public prosecutors María Miguelina Palma and Jhon Richard Suncar, belonging to the Investigative Department of Intellectual Property and High-Tech Crimes of the Ciudad Nueva Palace of Justice, who will continue with the corresponding procedural steps.
