Roberto Fulcar and Ángel Martínez meet again in court in search of an agreement
The Fourth Criminal Chamber of the National District has scheduled the conciliation hearing for this Wednesday in the legal process facing former Minister of Education, Roberto Fulcar, and communicator Ángel Martínez. The case, which revolves around a defamation and slander lawsuit filed by the former official, enters a decisive stage where both parties will explore the possibility of settling their differences through an agreement.
This judicial meeting is the continuation of a preliminary hearing, which was rescheduled for this August 19th with the objective of granting Martinez’s defense the necessary time to thoroughly analyze the accusatory file presented by Fulcar’s legal team.
Possibility of a conciliatory exit
During previous sessions, Martínez’s defense team, led by lawyer Julio César Paredes, showed openness toward an alternative resolution to the judicial conflict. They even acknowledged that certain comments made by the communicator may have affected the former minister’s integrity, expressing their client’s intention to reduce the media and legal tension that has surrounded this confrontation.
The legal representation of Roberto Fulcar, led by lawyer Ingrid Hidalgo, has confirmed its willingness to listen to and evaluate any proposal for an agreement presented during the hearing, keeping the door open to a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
The role of the court
Judge Octavia Carolina Fernández will be in charge of presiding over this conciliation hearing. Her main role will be to listen to the arguments from both sides and determine if there is a real and formal willingness to reach an agreement that puts an end to the controversy. If a consensus is reached, the judicial process could conclude at this stage.
- Legal context: Conciliation is a procedural step designed to avoid the burden of a full trial.
- Alternative scenario: In the event that a satisfactory agreement is not reached by both parties, the court must establish the schedule and procedures to be followed in accordance with Dominican legislation to continue with the defamation and slander trial.
Public attention remains on this case, given the impact of the statements that gave rise to the lawsuit. This Wednesday’s hearing will be decisive in determining whether the conflict is resolved amicably or if the litigation will continue its course in the higher judicial instances.
