Robbie Williams reveals autism diagnosis and how he manages his mental health

Renowned British artist Robbie Williams has shared a personal revelation that has marked a turning point in his self-perception. At 52 years old, the singer has confirmed that he has been diagnosed with autism, a condition that, in his own words, has provided him with greater clarity regarding the mechanisms of his mind and various personality traits.

The announcement was made during an event in London, held as part of the launch of the new collection from his fashion brand, Hopeium. Before the attendees, Williams addressed his diagnosis with the transparency and acerbic humor that characterize him.

I have ADHD and I just found out that I also have a bit of autism, which I actually love because it explains so much. For all the weird things I do, I just say: sorry, I’m autistic.

The impact of ADHD and creativity as a refuge

Beyond autism, the former Take That member delved into his experience living with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Williams described how this condition affects his ability to manage focus, allowing him hyper-concentration on specific topics, while other daily tasks prove to be a challenge.

  • Hyperfocus: Ability to dedicate 1000% to personal interests.
  • Attention difficulty: Challenges in focusing on routine aspects of family life.
  • Creativity as a tool: Uses the creation of images and artistic projects to silence intrusive thoughts.

The artist confessed that staying busy is vital for his emotional well-being. By focusing on creative activities, he manages to push aside ideas that generate anxiety or fear from his mind. He even shared an anecdote about how his mind, before receiving the proper tools, would generate complex obsessive thoughts, such as the irrational fear of causing accidents through telekinesis.

For Williams, channeling her energy into creating visual content and fun projects has become her best therapy, allowing her to train her brain to focus on the positive and move away from the excessive worries that marked much of her journey.
