Public Health intensifies fumigation campaigns against dengue in La Romana
The Provincial Health Directorate (DPS) of La Romana, led by Dr. Carmen Jiménez, has reinforced its fumigation operations in various sectors of the province. These actions are part of a continuous preventive strategy designed to combat the spread of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, the main vector responsible for the transmission of dengue.
Specialized brigades have deployed an extensive intervention covering strategic points in La Romana West, as well as the facilities of the 9-1-1 National Emergency and Security Attention System in the INVI sector. Likewise, vector control work was extended to the communities of Don Juan and Pica Piedra, belonging to the municipality of Villa Hermosa.
Prevention and civic responsibility
Dr. Jiménez highlighted that the success of these sessions lies in consistency and citizen collaboration. According to the official, prevention is a shared task between health authorities and the community. In this regard, the DPS has issued key recommendations for residents:
- Keep yards, vacant lots, and perimeter areas free of weeds and debris.
- Eliminate or tightly cover any container that could accumulate stagnant water.
- Facilitate access for fumigation brigades to homes during operations.
The fight against dengue does not depend exclusively on fumigation; the active participation of every family is essential to eliminate breeding sites and prevent the mosquito from reproducing in our environments.
