Public Ministry requests pretrial detention for man accused of attempted femicide in Los Guandules
The Public Ministry has formalized a request for pretrial detention against Florencio Lorenzo Lorenzo, who is accused of attempted aggravated femicide against his ex-partner, Yaritza Sosa. The violent event took place in the Los Guandules sector, located in the National District.
Prosecutor Liyanny del Orbe María, in charge of the case, details in the request for coercive measures that the incident occurred on the night of last September 2nd inside the residence they both shared. According to the chronology of events, an argument motivated by access to mobile devices quickly escalated into a brutal physical assault.
Details of the brutal assault
According to the indictment, Lorenzo Lorenzo allegedly struck the victim on the head using a hammer, which caused Sosa to collapse. Subsequently, the assailant attempted to suffocate her by placing a cloth soaked in formaldehyde in her mouth, a substance he also poured over the woman’s body to try to silence her cries for help.
The timely intervention of National Police officers, alerted by a neighbor through the 9-1-1 System, prevented the attack from ending in a greater tragedy. The officers found the victim desperately calling for help and proceeded with the arrest of the accused in flagrante delicto.

During the inspection of the defendant’s vehicle, the authorities made a discovery that reinforces the premeditation of the act: a coffin and a machete. According to the victim’s testimony, Lorenzo Lorenzo had repeatedly threatened to take her life and place her remains in a casket.
- Victim’s condition: Sosa has serious injuries and is under strict medical observation, in addition to facing psychological sequelae that include anxiety and depressive symptoms.
- Legal classification: The Public Prosecutor’s Office has classified the act as attempted femicide aggravated by the romantic relationship.
- Judicial process: After an initial postponement by Judge Rigoberto Sena, of the Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services of the National District, the hearing to determine the coercive measure was scheduled for this Tuesday, September 8.
