Patria para Todos party rejects expulsion of Cuban diplomats
The Homeland for All Party (PPT) has expressed its firm rejection of the recent decision by the Dominican government to request the departure of nine Cuban diplomatic officials. According to the political organization, this measure does not respond to a real diplomatic necessity, but is the direct result of pressures exerted by the United States on the foreign agenda of the Dominican Republic.
Through an official statement, the PPT, presided over by Héctor Sánchez, described the action as a setback in the country’s diplomatic tradition, noting that alignment with Washington’s guidelines compromises national sovereignty. For the organization, this event should not be understood as a bilateral conflict between Santo Domingo and Havana, but rather as part of a larger strategy aimed at isolating Cuba under the influence of the U.S. Department of State.
Questioning foreign policy
The political party has taken the opportunity to criticize other recent agreements that, in its view, demonstrate a loss of independence in the State’s decision-making. Among the points that the PPT has put under the microscope are:
- The migratory memorandum of understanding that facilitates the temporary entry of third-country citizens deported by the United States.
- The authorization for U.S. military aircraft to operate in Dominican airports, linking it to regional tensions.
Cuba is an unquestionable symbol of solidarity with peoples and nations in their struggles for their liberation and self-determination and for the sustainable and inclusive development of nations and their peoples.
Declaration of the Homeland for All Party
The PPT warned that the departure of the diplomats could be the first step towards a total rupture of relations with the Caribbean island. Likewise, the organization recalled the historical ties of solidarity, highlighting the Cuban support provided during crucial periods of Dominican history, including the fight against the dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo.
Finally, the Homeland for All Party has requested that President Luis Abinader revoke the measure, which they defined as offensive and submissive. Furthermore, they called on the country’s social and democratic sectors to defend the neutrality and self-determination of the Dominican State against any foreign interference.
