Pedro Martínez inaugurates modern educational and sports complex in Manoguayabo
Legendary Hall of Famer Pedro Martínez saw one of his most ambitious projects come to fruition with the inauguration of the Educational and Sports Complex that bears his name in Manoguayabo, Santo Domingo Oeste. During the ceremony, the former Major League pitcher highlighted the importance of this work as a legacy for Dominican youth.
Martínez revealed that, although he presented the initiative to various government administrations in the past, it was under the administration of President Luis Abinader that he found the necessary support to turn the dream into reality. The star athlete emphasized that his interest is purely social, distancing himself from any political inclination.
This is the legacy I wanted to leave for my country. Many administrations passed through here, and I knocked on their doors. Luis, you are my friend. And I recognize you today, on the greatest day of my life. You were the only one who faced this community.

Social impact and scope of the project
The complex is designed to transform the lives of more than 1,700 students, offering free education from the pre-primary level to high school. Carolina Cruz de Martínez, wife of the former baseball player, detailed that the infrastructure seeks to promote the integral development of young people, combining academic excellence with sports discipline to prevent school dropout.
The project, whose construction began in 2021 with an investment of over RD$924 million, features first-class facilities:
- Paulino Jaime Abreu Basic School with 27 classrooms.
- José Cheché Abreu Vargas Polytechnic, equipped with laboratories and technical areas.
- Baseball stadium, athletics track, and two covered courts.
- Gymnasium and police station to ensure security.
- Specialized workshops in Nursing, Gastronomy, and Physical-Sports Animation.
For his part, President Luis Abinader highlighted that this project should serve as a management model for other communities, underscoring Pedro Martínez’s role as an example to follow in every respect. The president reaffirmed the State’s commitment to the administrative efficiency of these new facilities.
A space for history and the future
The complex not only focuses on formal education, but also seeks to preserve the former player’s legacy through the Pedro Martínez Sports Museum. With this initiative, it is hoped that the new generations of Manoguayabo will have the necessary tools to reach their full potential, fostering values, professional skills, and a healthy life through sports.
