Traffic chaos on Kennedy: Overturned truck causes heavy congestion in Greater Santo Domingo

Drivers traveling through the National District experienced a complicated Thursday morning following the overturning of a heavy vehicle at the intersection of John F. Kennedy and Ortega y Gasset avenues. The incident, which occurred during the early morning hours, caused part of the cargo to be scattered across the road, obstructing traffic flow in one of the capital’s busiest areas.

From early hours, agents of the General Directorate of Traffic and Land Transportation Safety (Digesett) were deployed to the scene to coordinate cleaning and debris removal efforts. The main objective of the authorities was to expedite mobility, which was significantly affected during the morning rush hour.

Incident details

General Pascual Cruz Méndez, who was in charge of the operation, provided the first technical reports on the incident. According to preliminary investigations, the semi-trailer truck was traveling in an east-west direction when it suffered a mechanical failure in the chassis, which caused the driver to lose control and end up overturning the vehicle.

Fortunately, the accident left no casualties to mourn, with only material damage reported and the obstruction of public roads while removal maneuvers were carried out.

The authorities maintained a constant deployment in the area to ensure that, after the clearing of the cargo and the removal of the accidented unit, traffic would return to normal as soon as possible. Citizens were urged to drive with caution through the area while road assistance efforts concluded.
