The National Office for Seismic Assessment and Vulnerability of Infrastructure and Buildings (Onesvie) has recorded a notable increase in the interest of the Dominican population in knowing the structural safety of their properties. According to official data, the institution has received more than 2,000 requests from both private citizens and the private sector, reflecting greater preventive awareness regarding potential seismic movements.

Leonardo Reyes Madera, general director of the entity, highlighted that this phenomenon responds to a growing concern to verify how prepared physical structures are in the face of seismic events. The official stressed that, although the main focus of Onesvie falls on government institutions, the agency maintains an active and open program to evaluate private and commercial properties.

Free evaluations as a pillar of prevention

One of the most relevant points of the service offered by Onesvie is that these technical inspections are carried out free of charge. The central objective is to identify vulnerabilities in buildings and provide critical data that allows owners to take preventive measures or execute the necessary interventions to reinforce their spaces.
