Beyoncé faces new copyright lawsuit over the track Alien Superstar
Music superstar Beyoncé finds herself at the center of a legal controversy once again. The company Hirose Enterprise and producer Shuji Hirose have filed a lawsuit alleging copyright infringement in the song Alien Superstar, from the hit album Renaissance, released in 2022.
The origin of the legal conflict
The dispute revolves around the use of a spoken snippet from the song Moonraker, originally performed by John Holiday. The plaintiffs argue that this material was incorporated into Beyoncé’s production without the necessary authorization before the album was released.
The crux of the legal battle lies in the validity of the license obtained by the artist’s team. Although the singer’s representatives secured permission from John Holiday weeks after the album’s release, Hirose argues that the performer no longer held the legal authority to grant such rights, as they had been transferred to his company decades ago.
The company asserts that, despite having notified those involved about the alleged infringement, the commercialization of the recorded material continued without interruption.
Claims and judicial background
Given this situation, Hirose Enterprise is seeking decisive measures, including:
- A court order blocking the generation of revenue derived from the disputed work.
- Financial compensation for damages, the total amount of which has not yet been specified to the authorities.
This case is not new to the artist’s circle. In July 2025, a similar process was initiated against Parkwood Entertainment and Sony Music, among other entities. However, said process was dismissed in June 2026 by federal judge Mark C. Scarsi. It is important to note that that dismissal was not a ruling on the merits of the matter or copyright, but was due to an administrative error: the plaintiff company did not have valid legal standing at the time of filing the original action.
