PLD leaders in New York denounce maneuvers against Francisco Javier García’s aspirations
A group of Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) militants residing in New York has raised their voice to denounce alleged internal tactics aimed at hindering the presidential aspirations of Francisco Javier García. According to the complainants, these actions seek to curb the political growth of the former minister with the goal of favoring other pre-candidates within the organization ahead of the 2028 elections.
Although the group members preferred to remain anonymous to avoid possible disciplinary sanctions, they pointed out that these maneuvers come from a minority sector of the party. The PLD members highlight that García has managed to consolidate a solid national structure through territorial tours and constant, direct contact with the party’s grassroots.
Questioning the role of polls
In their statement, militants abroad also questioned the excessive importance given to polls as the sole method for evaluating pre-candidacies. In their view, the true strength of a presidential project should be measured by factors such as mobilization capacity, territorial organization, and a real connection with the rank and file.
Unity will be the fundamental pillar for the Dominican Liberation Party to strengthen its electoral presence and reconnect with the sectors of the population that have distanced themselves from the political organization.
The internal electoral landscape
The PLD is currently in a process of internal reorganization. The Central Committee has recognized eight leaders with interest in the presidential candidacy, among them:

- Francisco Domínguez Brito
- Ramón Ventura Camejo
- Manfred Mata
- Luis de León
- Gonzalo Castillo
- Mario Bruno González
With the consultation scheduled for next October 18th, the Organizing Commission for the Consultation on Presidential Aspirants (CONAP-2026) is working on setting up the process. Given this scenario, leaders in New York have called for transparency and fairness, insisting that the rules of the game must be clear for all participants in order to avoid unnecessary tensions that could affect the party’s renewal.
Finally, the militants emphasized that the PLD’s priority must be to recover the lost electoral ground and present itself to the electorate as a cohesive and renewed option for the upcoming elections.
