Netanyahu conditions the reconstruction of Gaza on the total disarmament of Hamas
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been emphatic in setting the conditions for the future of the Gaza Strip. Through an official statement, the leader asserted that no reconstruction work will begin in the territory as long as Hamas maintains its armed capacity.
Israel’s position is clear: the complete disarmament of the Islamist group is an indispensable requirement. Likewise, Netanyahu’s office clarified that the Israeli government has not yet authorized the entry of any international force into the enclave, despite the proposals circulating in the diplomatic sphere to guarantee security in the area.
Negotiations and friction points
This announcement comes after Netanyahu’s recent meetings with Jared Kushner, an advisor to Donald Trump, and the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Nickolay Mladenov. These meetings sought to chart a path to halt the military offensive, although differences persist.
Israel has made it clear that there will be no reconstruction in the Strip until Hamas is completely disarmed.

The main stumbling block in the negotiations lies in the sequence of events to achieve peace. The most critical points of conflict are:
- The withdrawal of Israeli military forces from Gazan territory.
- The process and exact timing for the disarmament of Hamas.
While Hamas maintains that the delivery of weaponry can only occur once Israeli troops leave the Strip, Israel insists on maintaining its military presence until it is guaranteed that the group has been completely dismantled. This discrepancy has stalled international efforts to achieve a definitive ceasefire.
Humanitarian crisis in Gaza
The lack of political consensus contrasts with the devastating reality on the ground. It is estimated that nearly 80% of Gaza’s infrastructure has suffered severe damage or total destruction after years of conflict. Currently, a large part of the enclave’s two million inhabitants survives in precarious conditions, residing in tents and temporary shelters with limited access to basic services and sanitation.
