Dominican Republic Navy thwarts illegal departure attempt in Miches

In a recent surveillance and control operation, the Dominican Republic Navy managed to dismantle an irregular migration attempt in the coastal area of Miches, El Seibo province. Authorities intercepted a group of foreigners who intended to undertake a clandestine trip to Puerto Rico.

The operation, which combined ground intelligence work and maritime patrolling, was carried out in the vicinity of Río Mojica. During the deployment, Navy personnel detected a group of people who, upon noticing the presence of the military units, attempted to escape in different directions through the wooded and coastal area.

Detainee details

Following the intervention, the institution’s officers managed to arrest seven individuals. According to the official report, the group was composed of the following people:

  • Five citizens of Chinese nationality: three women and two men.
  • Two citizens of Haitian nationality: both men.

The rapid response of our units in the Río Mojica area allowed us to thwart this illicit operation, reaffirming our commitment to the security of our coasts and compliance with immigration laws.

The authorities are maintaining reinforced controls at strategic points in the Eastern region, with the aim of preventing the illicit trafficking of migrants and guaranteeing sovereignty in Dominican territorial waters. The detainees were transferred to the corresponding facilities for the relevant legal purposes.
