Dominican government projects massive housing delivery by the end of 2026

The Minister of Housing and Buildings (MIVED), Jean Luis Rodríguez, announced that the Government aims to deliver between 1,600 and 2,000 new homes during the last four months of the year. This initiative is part of the national strategy to reduce the housing deficit and guarantee access for Dominican families to decent homes.

During his speech at the LA Semanal con la Prensa event, the official detailed that the MIVED is working intensively on accelerating ongoing projects and simplifying bureaucratic processes that have historically limited the construction sector.

Boosting investment and facilities for citizens

In addition to the scheduled deliveries, Rodriguez reported that between September and December, construction will begin on another 2,600 housing units. These actions reinforce the commitment of the current administration, which has already surpassed the figure of 15,000 homes delivered since the beginning of its term.

The minister highlighted the significant increase in the state subsidy, underscoring that government support for home acquisition has scaled from the initial RD$300,000 to reach nearly one million pesos per family today.

The cost of housing is not exclusively inherent to the issue of wage increases in the construction sector, but also to the cost of land, materials, and other components.

Exponential increase in building permits

One of the pillars of MIVED’s management has been the streamlining of construction permits, achieving record figures that boost the national economy:

  • Approved permits: Increased from 663 permits between January and August 2025 to 1,269 in the same period of 2026.
  • Private investment: The volume of investment associated with these projects grew from RD$166,977 million to approximately RD$460,000 million.

Health, education, and prison system infrastructure

The scope of MIVED extends beyond housing, impacting critical sectors for the country’s social development:

  • Health: Delivery of 24 centers, including 13 hospitals and 11 diagnostic centers, adding 1,300 hospital beds.
  • Higher education: Construction of new UASD extensions in various provinces, with the Santo Domingo Este project being the largest undertaking.
  • Penitentiary system: Significant progress in rehabilitation centers such as Las Parras and the upcoming delivery of the Anamuya prison in Higüey, which is 97% complete.

Rodríguez concluded by reaffirming that the ministry’s priority for this final stage of the year will be to eliminate any obstacle that delays the delivery of works, ensuring that each project becomes a tangible reality for the benefit of the citizenry.
