Alofoke Sports: MINERD promotes student well-being at the start of the 2026-2027 school year
The Ministry of Education (MINERD), through its Guidance and Psychology Directorate, has launched a strategic orientation week to welcome students for the new 2026-2027 school year. This initiative seeks to consolidate an educational environment based on harmonious coexistence, family integration, and emotional support from the very first day of classes.
Divina García Vázquez, head of the National Directorate of Guidance and Psychology, reported that pedagogical guides and specialized resources have been designed to facilitate this adaptation process. National, regional, and district technicians participated in this joint effort, along with guidance counselor teams from the entire national educational system.
Ecosystem of joy: A symbolic approach to learning
Under the motto “Ecosystem of joy”, the program includes daily sessions full of symbolism to foster specific values in the educational community:
- The Hummingbird: Represents the unique contribution of each member of the community so that students can develop and reach their full potential within the classrooms.
- The Butterfly: Designated for Wednesday, it symbolizes the constant transformation required by the Dominican educational system, actively involving teachers and students.
- The Ant: Friday will be dedicated to the integration of families, highlighting the importance of teamwork between educational centers, parents, and guardians.
We need this tribe to educate with love and joy. This period begins with significant challenges, but also with unbeatable opportunities to create environments that foster learning and harmonious coexistence.

These actions were highlighted during the central opening ceremony of the school year, led by President Luis Abinader and the Minister of Education, Luis Miguel De Camps, at the Espejo La Milagrosa Primary School, located in Santo Domingo Este.
Educational authorities reiterated that the active support of families is a fundamental pillar to guarantee regular attendance and the integral development of students. The start of the school year maintains high expectations in the education sector, with a government focus centered on compliance with the academic calendar and continuous improvement in the quality of learning at all levels.
