Social Security Debate in the Dominican Republic: Details of the upcoming meeting organized by CODES
The Economic and Social Development Council of Santo Domingo (CODES) has called for a new high-level meeting for this coming Sunday. The news was confirmed by communicator Máximo Romero Dante, who announced that the central focus of the discussions will be the reform and social security policies currently impacting the Dominican system.
This event positions itself as a key piece in the country’s political and social landscape, allowing for a deep analysis of one of the topics of greatest interest to the citizenry. The initiative seeks to transcend traditional rhetoric to focus on concrete proposals and management methodologies.
Debate protagonists
The panel will feature prominent figures representing different perspectives and sectors on social security. According to what was reported by Romero Dante, the confirmed participants are:
- Elías Báez: Current director of the Information and Affiliate Defense Office (DIDA), who will be responsible for defending the vision and actions of the government led by President Luis Abinader.
- Chanel Rosa Chupani: Former director of the National Health Service (SENASA), who will participate representing the positions of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD).
- Juan Manuel Sontac: Renowned economist who will provide the technical analysis necessary to evaluate the viability and impact of the policies discussed.
A necessary democratic exercise
Since its creation in 2022, CODES has promoted a culture of debate that has evolved from the municipal level to the presidential level, managing to bring together the country’s main political leaders in past editions. For the panel of experts, these spaces are fundamental for the strengthening of Dominican democracy.
Mr. Elías Báez will have to defend the vision of Luis Abinader’s government regarding social security and Chanel Rosa Chupani will be speaking about the PLD.

The expectation for this meeting is high, as Dominican society increasingly demands scenarios where candidates and officials present their work plans transparently.
