In his statements, the official emphasized that the Donald Trump administration has no intention of undermining the integrity of Ecuadorian fishermen, clarifying the context of recent naval operations in Pacific waters.
The military actions, which have resulted in the sinking of six Ecuadorian vessels, are part of a coordinated security strategy. According to U.S. authorities, these ships were operating as logistical stations for refueling speedboats, which are used by criminal groups, specifically the organization known as “Los Choneros,” for the trafficking of illicit substances to North America.

Rubio stressed that the absolute priority is to dismantle the terrorist structures that threaten the stability of the Ecuadorian people. The secretary highlighted that cooperation with President Daniel Noboa is fundamental to confronting the rise in criminality in certain areas of the country. “These people must be confronted, and I am glad that there is a president here willing to do something,” he noted during his speech in Quito.
