The judicial system of the San Cristóbal province has handed down an exemplary sentence against Euris Yessiel Báez, a 27-year-old man found guilty of the homicide of Cantalicio Valdez Vallejo, a 55-year-old lawyer and former captain of the National Police. The tragic event, which shocked the community, occurred in September 2022.
Case details and crime mechanics
According to the file presented by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the events originated under a facade of trust. On September 29, 2022, Báez and Valdez Vallejo met and boarded the retired officer’s vehicle. During the journey, the perpetrator took advantage of the proximity to fatally shoot the victim.
After committing the crime, the aggressor moved the lifeless body to a motel located on the 6 de Noviembre highway, where authorities managed to locate it that same night after intense investigative efforts.
The defendant used the existing relationship of trust to execute the criminal plan, stripping the victim of cash, their service weapon, and personal documents before attempting to hide the body.
