Leones del Escogido strengthen their pitching staff with two new additions
The Leones del Escogido continue to strengthen their roster ahead of the 2026-27 season of the Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM). On this occasion, the scarlet management announced the signing of pitchers Jackson Rees and Reid VanScoter, who arrive with the goal of providing depth and quality to the capital team’s pitching staff.
Jackson Rees, a 32-year-old right-hander from California, lands in Dominican winter baseball after an outstanding performance with the Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos in Mexico. During his time in Aztec lands, Rees pitched 24.0 innings, achieving a 2.63 ERA, a 1.29 WHIP, and recording four saves, in addition to striking out 26 opponents and limiting the opposition’s batting average to .205.
Jackson brings us a quality arm and a presence that can be important for our pitching. We like his repertoire, his ability to attack hitters and, above all, his competitive profile.
Carlos Peña, General Manager of the Escogido
A left-handed player with potential
For his part, 27-year-old left-hander Reid VanScoter joins the red organization after fulfilling commitments in the Seattle Mariners system. During his time at the Double-A level with the Arkansas Travelers, the New York pitcher accumulated 33.0 innings, maintaining a 2.73 ERA, a 2-2 record, and 42 strikeouts. Likewise, he demonstrated consistency by adding 18 strikeouts in 18.2 innings during his stint in Triple-A.
Regarding VanScoter’s arrival, Carlos Peña highlighted the organization’s enthusiasm to have his talent. “We like his ability to attack the zone, compete, and execute different ways to get outs. We believe he has the tools to adapt quickly to our league,” the executive added.
Preparations for the 2026-27 campaign
With these two signings, the Leones del Escogido now have four confirmed reinforcements for the upcoming season, joining pitchers Lael Lockhart and Brett de Geus, who were previously announced by the scarlet team.
The franchise, holder of 18 national titles, plans to begin its official practices this Friday, September 25th. The training sessions will be held at the New York Yankees academy facilities, located in Boca Chica, preparing the ground for the official start of the LIDOM tournament, scheduled for October 16th.
