Dominican fugitive accused of sexual assault extradited from Colombia

The National Police confirmed the arrival in the country of Jorge Luis Mojica Ortiz, who was extradited from Colombia after being sought by the Dominican justice system. The individual, who remained a fugitive from the law, faces accusations for his alleged participation in a case of sexual assault against a minor that occurred in the province of Samaná.

The transfer was carried out from Bogotá to the Las Américas International Airport (AILA), where agents from the Interpol Santo Domingo Directorate received the defendant to proceed with his custody and placement at the disposal of the corresponding courts.

Case background and court order

Mojica Ortiz was on the list of internationally wanted persons via an Interpol Red Notice. This measure was activated following the issuance of judicial order number 604-2024-SAUT-00789, issued on August 3, 2024, by the Instruction Court of the Judicial District of Samaná.

The individual involved is being investigated for an incident recorded on December 23, 2021, in the province of Samaná, where he allegedly violated the integrity of a minor.

Ongoing judicial process

Upon his arrival in Dominican territory, the detainee was handed over to the Investigation Division (DICRIM) of the National Police in Samaná. Authorities confirmed that the process will continue under the current legal framework, complying with the judicial order that prompted his international capture.

This extradition is the result of international cooperation efforts maintained by the Dominican Republic through Interpol, with the objective of ensuring that individuals required by the justice system face criminal proceedings for the crimes attributed to them.
