The JCE underscores the fundamental role of the Civil Registry in national identity

The Central Electoral Board (JCE) has reaffirmed the essential nature of the Civil Registry as the fundamental pillar that supports the identity of Dominicans. According to the institution, having an accurate and updated database is the indispensable prerequisite for accessing the identity and electoral card, a document that legally accredits each citizen before the State.

Through its official channels, the electoral body detailed that civil registry processes not only act as an administrative archive, but as the main guarantee for people to exercise their rights and access fundamental services. The correct management of this data is the axis that allows for the issuance of official documents with full guarantees of security and transparency.

Identity as a pillar of citizenship

Within the framework of this institutional campaign, Jorge Antonio Urbáez, civil registrar of Santo Domingo Oeste, emphasized that the work carried out by the civil registry offices goes beyond a simple bureaucratic procedure. For Urbáez, identity is the element that links the individual to their history and their role within the community.

Without identity we are nothing. We are the guardians of the Republic’s identity. Without identity, what are we? A walking body. We must have a name; what makes us part of society is the name.

Jorge Antonio Urbáez, civil officer of Santo Domingo Oeste.

Services and data update

The Civil Registry encompasses a series of vital processes that include, as a priority, the registration and issuance of birth certificates. These documents serve as the primary support for any subsequent procedures before the State. In this regard, the JCE reminded citizens of the importance of keeping their personal data updated, especially in light of the new requirements for the identity and electoral card renewal process.

  • Legal basis: The Civil Registry is the foundation for the issuance of the identity and electoral card.
  • Citizen responsibility: It is imperative to verify that personal data is correct to avoid setbacks in state services.
  • Modernization: The JCE has continuous validation mechanisms to ensure that citizens’ information is accurate and aligned with current regulations.

With these actions, the JCE seeks to raise awareness among the population about the relevance of civil registries, consolidating a robust identification system that strengthens the social fabric of the Dominican Republic.
