Guloya Theater celebrates 35 years with the XII edition of the Ibero-American Pocket Theater Festival
The Guloya Theater dresses up to commemorate its 35th anniversary with the return of the Ibero-American Pocket Theater Festival (FEIT), which celebrates its twelfth edition. This cultural event, which has become a benchmark for the performing arts in the Dominican Republic, invites the public to enjoy a select program of plays and spaces for critical dialogue in the historic Colonial City.
The presentations will take place at the Otto Coro Hall, located at 205 Arzobispo Portes Street, from September 18th to October 11th. The schedule is set for Fridays and Saturdays at 8:30 p.m., while Sunday performances will begin at 6:30 p.m.
A high-level billboard
The festival’s opening will be led by the play “Bendito Gordo,” a bold political satire directed by Claudio Rivera. The cast, composed of Rivera himself, Gerardo “El Cuervo” Mercedes, Luinis Olaverria, and Viena González, promises to captivate the audience with a production that has been described by critics as a must-see work.
- MUTE (September 25 to 27): A reflective piece on motherhood and teaching during pandemic times, directed by Ingrid Luciano and performed by Estefany Vásquez.
- Cartografía de la memoria and Sola (October 2 to 4): Renowned Mexican actress Pilar Villanueva arrives in the country with proposals focused on improvisation, in collaboration with the Espontáneo festival.
- Liborio (October 8 to 11): A one-person show directed and performed by Dimitri Rivera, who explores the historical memory of the Palma Sola Massacre and popular religiosity, a work that earned him a nomination for Best Actor at the 2026 Soberano Awards.
The XII Pocket FEIT is not only a stage for performance, but a meeting point for analysis. Through the ‘Pocket Lining’ space, on Sundays after the shows, specialists such as Mónica Volonteri, Gilda Matos, Olga Espinal, and Danilo Ginebra will debate the productions together with the creators and the audience.
Theatrical training and reflection
As part of the complementary activities, on Saturday, September 26th at 11:00 a.m., the discussion “Influence of Bertolt Brecht on El Bendito Gordo” will take place. This meeting will feature a panel of experts composed of Ingrid Luciano, Mónica Volonteri, Reynaldo Disla, and Claudio Rivera. Admission is free for artists, students, and theater enthusiasts.
