Colombian football legends unite in Bogotá for the Let’s Lift Colombia cause
The El Campín stadium in Bogotá will be the setting this Friday for a sporting event marked by solidarity. Under the name “Let’s Lift Up Colombia,” a group of historic figures from national soccer will gather with the goal of raising funds for the families and communities affected by the strong earthquake that occurred on August 10th.
The initiative, led by former defender Mario Yepes, has generated a massive response from the fans, managing to sell out tickets in just two days. This support reflects the commitment of Colombian society in the face of the tragedy that has left a toll, according to figures from the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management, of 319 dead, 260 missing, and more than 4,500 people injured.
A star-studded cast on the pitch
The match will feature the participation of 36 players who have left their mark on the history of Colombian soccer. Among the confirmed names, figures from different generations who have worn the national team jersey stand out:
- Radamel Falcao García and Juan Guillermo Cuadrado.
- Carlos “el Pibe” Valderrama and Juan Pablo Ángel.
- Faryd Mondragón and Óscar Córdoba.
- Jackson Martínez, Teófilo Gutiérrez and Fredy Guarín.
- Camilo Zúñiga, Carlos Sánchez, Giovanni Moreno, Fabián Vargas, Alexander Mejía and Macnelly Torres.
- John Javier “Choronta” Restrepo, Giovanni Hernández, Cristian Zapata, Gerardo Bedoya and Carlos Valdés.
The technical direction of the teams will be in charge of two undisputed benchmarks: Francisco “Pacho” Maturana and René Higuita. There is even a possibility that Higuita will actively participate in the game during some passages of the match.

Mario Yepes, a native of Cali, one of the cities most impacted by the earthquake, emphasized that the main purpose is to use soccer as a vehicle for hope and tangible support. The event seeks not only to be economic relief for those affected, but also a symbol of unity in the face of the adversity the country is going through.
