Abadina announces U14 tournament with 40 teams for its 63rd anniversary
The National District Basketball Association (Abadina) has made official the celebration of its U14 category tournament, in both the male and female divisions, for the year 2026. This special edition will feature the participation of 40 teams and is part of the commemorative activities for the institution’s 63rd anniversary.
The sporting event, which seeks to foster the development of new talent, will have its opening ceremony next Saturday, September 5th, at 4:00 in the afternoon. The inaugural act will take place in front of the bust of Don Virgilio Travieso Soto, located on the front esplanade of the Arena BanReservas, at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center.

Edwin Castillo, president of Abadina, highlighted the relevance of this tournament for the growth of youth basketball, integrating young athletes between 13 and 14 years old. The leader recalled that the entity was founded on September 4, 1963, so this sporting event is a fundamental pillar within its anniversary agenda.
The organization has decided to dedicate this edition of the tournament to the Dominican Basketball Federation’s Minor Categories National Teams Project, a key initiative promoted by engineer Rafael Uribe for the strengthening of our discipline at the national level.

The organizational success of this tournament is backed by iconic figures of Dominican basketball. The executive coordination is under the responsibility of the Sports Immortal, José -Maíta- Mercedes, together with Melvyn López, who lead a team of national coaches committed to the development of the country’s future athletes.
