Abadina announces U14 tournament with 40 teams to celebrate its 63rd anniversary
The National District Basketball Association (Abadina) has made official the celebration of its upcoming U14 category tournament, in both the male and female divisions. The event, which will bring together a total of 40 teams, is part of the commemorative acts for the 63rd anniversary of the sports entity.
The announcement was made by Edwin Castillo, president of Abadina, who highlighted the institution’s commitment to the development of basketball in the minor categories, integrating young prospects between 13 and 14 years of age.
Inauguration details
The opening ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, September 5th, starting at 4:00 in the afternoon. The event will take place on the front esplanade of the Palacio de los Deportes, now known as Arena BanReservas, specifically in front of the bust of Don Virgilio Travieso Soto, at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center.
A tribute to the development of young talent
For this edition, the Abadina board of directors has decided to dedicate the tournament to the National Basketball Selection Project for Minor Categories of the Dominican Basketball Federation (Fedombal). This initiative is supported by engineer Rafael Uribe and highlights the technical training work carried out by key figures in national basketball:
- José -Maíta- Mercedes, Immortal of Dominican Sports.
- Melvyn López, renowned strategist.
- A select group of national coaches.
The tournament commemorates the founding of Abadina, which took place on September 4, 1963, establishing itself as a fundamental platform for the development of new basketball talent in the capital.
