La Altagracia charts its path toward sustainable tourism development by 2030
The province of La Altagracia, the epicenter of tourism in the Dominican Republic, has taken a fundamental step to ensure its future with the presentation of the La Altagracia 2030 Strategic Plan. This comprehensive document seeks to balance rapid tourism growth with the well-being of its communities and the preservation of its environment.
The launch, held at the auditorium of the Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE), featured the participation of various key entities, including the Bishopric of the Diocese of Our Lady of Altagracia, the Dominican Association of Tourism Press (Adompretur), and the Altagracia Estratégica team.
A comprehensive approach beyond hospitality
Unlike other sectoral analyses, this publication focuses on the elements surrounding tourism activity, which have historically received less attention. Architect Julio César Corral, technical coordinator of the project, emphasized the importance of considering the territory from a holistic perspective.
Tourist destinations have the product, the tourist services, and also an environment. That environment includes environmental, population, transport, communication, and other issues that need to be observed from a comprehensive perspective.

Key axes of the Strategic Plan
- Territorial Analysis: Evaluation of the province’s transformation over the last 15 years and growth projections.
- Infrastructure and Services: Identification of critical needs in mobility, transport, health, education, and security.
- Environmental Sustainability: Monitoring of the coastal-marine ecosystem in the face of increasing population and tourism pressure.
- Human Capital: Strategies for training local human resources, aligned with future labor demands.
- 2035 Projection: Long-term scenarios to guide decision-making for investors, authorities, and social organizations.
For the consolidation of this study, a team of 15 specialists conducted an exhaustive survey in 23 Altagracian communities. This process allowed for the integration of the inhabitants’ voices and demands regarding essential aspects such as culture, education, and basic services.
Towards a new provincial vision
The La Altagracia 2030 Strategic Plan functions not only as a diagnosis, but as a roadmap to guide public and private investment. The central objective is to ensure that the economic success of the tourism sector does not compromise the quality of life of residents, but rather, acts as an engine for sustainable social and urban development.
With these projections, the province reaffirms its commitment to evolving towards a model where planning and a vision for the future are the pillars that sustain its leadership in the Caribbean tourism industry.
