Kelvin Cruz consolidates sports agenda with the Juan Pablo Duarte Games in New York
The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kelvin Cruz, reaffirmed his commitment to the physical and social development of Dominican youth by highlighting the relevance of the Juan Pablo Duarte Games in New York. This event, which will be held from August 14 to 23, is emerging as a fundamental pillar in the annual strategy promoted by the Ministry of Sports (Miderec).
The competition will feature the participation of 1,767 athletes who will test their skills in 22 different disciplines. Beyond the competition, the central purpose is to strengthen the ties between the Dominican Republic and its community abroad, fostering national identity through physical activity.
A comprehensive sports agenda
Since the beginning of his administration, Cruz has emphasized the importance of maintaining a constant calendar of events throughout the year. The goal is to offer young people healthy alternatives that keep them away from risky behaviors, providing them with spaces where they can develop their talents.
We have considered developing a work agenda throughout the year to provide a powerful tool for change to our young people in every corner of the country, ensuring that they have their minds and bodies occupied in the sport of their preference.

Towards a permanent sporting tradition
Regarding the appointment in New York, Minister Cruz described the event as a necessary rescue process. The official expressed his desire for these competitions to become an immovable tradition of the national calendar, regardless of management changes in the Ministry.
Cruz acknowledged the effort of key figures such as Evaristo Madrigal, Roberto and Chu Vásquez, as well as the entire Dominican sports leadership based on U.S. soil. According to the minister, the knowledge these leaders possess about local communities is vital for the success of the event and the strengthening of the connection with the diaspora.
With these types of actions, Miderec seeks to ensure that sport is a tool for permanent social transformation, consolidating a structure that transcends administrative periods and benefits future generations of Dominican athletes.
