Boosting Dominican sports: Government to invest RD$2 billion recovered from corruption

The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has announced an unprecedented capital injection for the country’s athletic sector. Minister Kelvin Cruz reported that the Dominican Government will allocate RD$2 billion to strengthen national sports infrastructure and development, funds that come from resources recovered following judicial processes related to acts of corruption from past administrations.

The announcement was made during a press meeting led by President Luis Abinader, where it was detailed that this extraordinary budget will be integrated directly into the accounts of the Ministry of Sports. The main objective is to address historical shortcomings and strengthen the areas that have limited the growth of Dominican athletes.

A commitment to comprehensive development

As the head of the sports portfolio explained, this budget allocation not only seeks to improve the physical conditions of training spaces, but also to guarantee a fairer and more equitable distribution of resources. The goal is clear: to increase support for all sports disciplines and provide greater security and well-being to those who represent the country in competitive arenas.

The investment will be aimed at responding to the sector’s concerns and improving conditions for the development of sports activities in the country.
