Julio Virgilio Brache highlights stability of the electrical system and control in food prices
The president of the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD), Julio Virgilio Brache, assured that the business sector has not suffered significant negative impacts due to recent interruptions in the electricity supply. According to the union leader, the national energy system currently shows an adequate level of stability after having overcome previous episodes of instability.
Lately we have seen that there has been stability in the system. Yes, there were blackouts in the past, but I believe that situation is currently stabilized.

Electricity bill and seasonal consumption
Regarding concerns about energy costs, Brache clarified that the perceived increase in electricity bills is mainly due to the rise in consumption resulting from the high temperatures recorded during the current summer season. In this regard, he emphasized that there has been no increase in the cost per kilowatt.
The industry leader recommended that users and companies conduct a detailed review of their invoices in the event of any variation, to distinguish whether the increase is due exclusively to higher consumption or changes in the contracted power, considering that current weather conditions have required greater use of air conditioning equipment.
Price stability and government support
On another note, when addressing the economic situation and the value of the basic food basket, the president of the AIRD positively assessed the measures adopted by the Government. He highlighted the continuous effort to subsidize fuels on a weekly basis, a strategy that, in his view, has been key to preventing fluctuations in international markets from directly affecting the pockets of Dominican consumers.
- The fuel subsidy acts as a buffer against international price variations.
- There are no immediate reasons to justify a generalized rise in food product prices under current conditions.
- The industrial sector maintains a stance of vigilance regarding market behavior.
These statements were offered within the framework of the seventh edition of HUB Cámara Santo Domingo, an event that brings together the main representatives of the country’s business and commercial fabric to analyze the national economic landscape.
