Juan Tomás Díaz assumes the presidency of the Association of Industries of Haina and the Southern Region
The Association of Industries and Enterprises of Haina and the Southern Region (AIEHaina and Southern Region) began a new institutional stage with the swearing-in of its board of directors for the current period. The event was led by Juan Tomás Díaz, representative of United Petroleum, who assumes leadership with the goal of strengthening the productive development of this strategic zone.
The swearing-in process was led by the Minister of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs, Eduardo Sanz Lovatón, who highlighted the vital importance that the Haina-Nigua industrial ecosystem holds for the stability and economic growth of the Dominican Republic.
Industrial development remains one of the pillars of sustainable economic growth. Haina is an example of how public-private collaboration can translate into jobs, exports, and greater national competitiveness.

A key engine for the national economy
During the ceremony, Díaz presented the updated results of the study “AIEHaina: A Bet on the National Future,” a document that ratifies the Haina–Nigua Industrial District (DIHN) as one of the most influential logistics and production hubs in the Dominican territory. The figures presented underscore a resounding impact on various macroeconomic indicators:
- Generation of more than 56,000 direct and formal jobs.
- Exports exceeding RD$60 billion.
- Private investment projections of over US$500 million.
- Concentration of more than 3,000 active taxpayers.
- Monthly payroll exceeding RD$1.9 billion.
The report highlights that the DIHN represents 64% of the business base of the San Cristóbal province, consolidating itself as a fundamental pillar for formal employment. Regarding financial performance, the companies installed in this district reached sales of nearly RD$250 billion, contributing an added value to the national economy of approximately RD$67 billion.
Recognitions and future commitment
The event also served as a stage to highlight the work of prominent figures in the sector. The association granted a special recognition to Víctor “Ito” Bisonó for his contributions to the country’s industrial strengthening, while Napoleón Rodríguez received an award for his outstanding management at the head of the institution.
The new board reaffirmed its roadmap, focused on improving the sector’s competitiveness, optimizing logistics infrastructure, and working on effective solutions for the land-use planning challenges facing the region. With this vision, AIEHaina and the Southern Region seek to continue being a benchmark for innovation, investment, and development for the country.
